Meet Our Coaches

Lawrence Osefoh

Since August 2021 Lawrence has been coaching and routesetting for CRG in the Boston metropolitan area. Lawrence has always been eager to learn from anyone, which led to the development of an athlete-led style of coaching - taking from the athletes their perceptions and perspectives in order to create a plan of action!
Lawrence pulls a lot of knowledge from different specialities - Ecological Dynamics, Breathwork, Motivational Interviewing, Physics, and Economics to name a few - to explore and understand the world of climbing.
Lawrence is best known for combining a unique ability to make analogies and the willingness to talk to anyone in order to learn their perspective, but beware he easily slips into lecture mode when he gets really excited about a topic he is fond of (there are a lot of them).

Karsten Grape

Karsten (aka Coach Grape) has been dedicated to the pursuit of rock climbing since he found climbing through his own college’s community. Through the people he met at Boston University, who later became the Boston University Climbing Club’s first ever members, Karsten found a love for sport that he didn’t know he had, and an even deeper love for the communities this sport builds around itself. He took on the moniker “Coach Grape” during graduate school, when he began coaching youth teams and doing private coaching as a side-hustle, which became his primary professional pursuit in 2021, upon completion of studies. Since then, Karsten has continued to learn every day about the process of self-mastery required to excel at something, and hopes that coaching people to teach themselves to become better climbers can in some way provide them the skills required to become great at anything they wish to apply themselves to.
